Village Day: 01 August

The weather was kind to us and fun was had by all.  Many thanks to all who supported the day and helped with fund-raising for both the social club and the church

2009

Village Christmas Meal: 11 December

Enjoyed by all who attended.

Bonfire Party: 6 November

Mappleton Field Day: 12 July

The weather was kinder than it has been of late and a good day was had by all. Thank you for everyone that helped both from the church and the social club, as well as others connected with neither!  It was a good fund raising event and the boys football tournament was a huge success - thanks go to Julian and Vivian as well as all the participants and parents.

2008

Bonfire Party 8 November

Unfortunately the weather tried to dampen proceedings just as the bonfire was lit, but the pumpkin soup, mulled wine and cakes were welcomed by those that attended

Mappleton Village Fundraising Day

This was very well supported and thanks to all who came.  The weather was kinder than of late and everyone enjoyed the wonderful array of stalls, bouncy castle, football and beer!  The Dad's vs Lad's football match ended in an undisputed (?!) 3-2 win to the Lads.  Well done Lads!!  Photos can be found on the homepage.

Pudding Evening: Saturday 14 June.

As ever this was well supported with a lovely array of puds.  Thanks to all that came and brought their delicious treats.

AGM: Tuesday 18 March

2007

Children's Christmas Party:  Sunday 9 December

A good time was had by all!

Bonfire evening: Saturday 3 November

We were lucky enough to have a dry evening and there was a good turn out.  Baked potatoes and mulled wine were enjoyed by all.

Family Fun Day:  Sunday 2 September

A very wet afternoon but the dad's and lads managed a rematch. The dad's took the title yet again although this could have been inpart due to the dad's making up their team with the best of the lads!!

Pudding evening:  Saturday 16 June

As usual there was a wonderful array of delicious puds. Most of us tried to sample them all but I'm not sure that anyone succeeded (certainly not for the want of trying on my part)!  It was suggested that we publish our recipes online so that everyone can attempt to make the ones they particularly enjoyed.  I'm hoping to collect recipes from everyone if possible in the near future.  Watch this space.....

Family Treasure Hunt: Sunday 6 May

This was very well supported and everyone who attended went away knowing a lot more about the history of our village.  It was an extremely enjoyable afternoon, strolling around visiting Manor Farm's wonderful weed-free garden (many thanks to Dorothy Shemilt for allowing us all to invade her) and the church, before ending up back at the Pavilion for the answers to the quiz and a wonderful selection of cakes and tea.  Many thanks go to our own historian, Danny Wells who gave us some tricky questions but provided us with a wealth of information about Mappleton - none of us had any idea that we had our own community garden - in New Zealand!!! Well done to Pop Watson for knowing more than anyone else about the village (including Dot Barker who came a close second).   Photos are now on the homepage.

AGM: 1 March 2007

The committee was delighted to welcome three new members:  Keith Moye, Richard Draper and Mrs M Jackson.  I'm sure they will be a useful addition to the ever-dwindling committee.

2006

Adults Christmas Party Night: Saturday 16 December 2006

A great night which was well supported.  It was good to see some new faces and there was plenty of activity and groovy moves on the dance floor!  Photos to be added to the homepage shortly.

Children's Christmas Party:  Sunday 10 December 2006

Most of the village children (as well as a few grandchildren) came along to this event.  All enjoyed the games and prizes and went home after a visit from Santa!  The committee went home exhausted!  Photos will be added to the homepage shortly.

Bonfire and Fireworks:  Friday 3 November 2006

Fortunately it stayed dry and the baked potatoes were enjoyed by many!  The fireworks were as spectacular as last year and thanks to Andrew and Josh Redfern and David Ruddock (non-committee members) for lighting a great bonfire and setting off the fireworks safely.

Mappleton Fun Day:  Sunday 23 July 2006

The weather was extremely kind and the day consisted of fun and games for all ages:  egg & spoon races, sack races and three-legged races etc.  The Lads vs Dads footy match resulted in the dads managing a win.  The village rounders was enjoyed by all and the day was rounded off with jacket potatoes and hot dogs.  Many thanks for all who suported this event.  Photographs will be found on the home page

Pudding Evening: Saturday 10 June 2006

There was a wonderful array of puds and although some of us tried, we were unable to taste all of them!

Mappleton Village General Knowledge Quiz: 9 May 2006

Congratulations to the winning team with an impressive score!  Thanks to Steve for providing a testing (for some of us) quiz.

2005

5 November 2005: Bonfire & Fireworks Evening

With a roaring bonfire, impressive fireworks, a bar in the pavilion (courtesy of the Okeover Arms) and, best of all, a great turn-out - the bonfire night was the best for years.

11 December 2005: Children's Christmas Party

The kid's party was a great success, with 17 children from age 2 to teens enjoying music, games, party food and creating a Christmas mural (which is currently proudly hung in the pavilion).  Everyone left with a broad smile and a selection box!

17 Dec 2005: Christmas Evening for Grown-ups

Organised by Mark Higgins.  A five-course meal in the Okeover Arms, followed by a disco.

Jason and the team at the Okeover put on a great meal (see below).  The pub was packed and the final die-hards wandered home well into the wee small hours.  A great time was had by all.

23 December 2005: Air Ambulance Presentation

Dorothy Shemilt made a presentation to the Air Ambulance in the Okeover Arms on Friday 23rd December.  The money was raised through a raffle held at Dorothy's 80th Birthday Party.

There was a further raffle held on the presentation night, with funds being split between the Social Club and St. Mary's Church.  We are very grateful to Dorothy and all who supported this event.
